Many common skin conditions can be diagnosed and treated effectively by an experienced GP with a specialism in dermatology. In most cases, what patients need is prompt access to a Clinician with the time, expertise and experience to make an accurate diagnosis and start appropriate treatment—not necessarily a hospital consultant.
Our GP has completed the Diploma in Dermatology and has over 15 years’ experience managing skin conditions in general practice. We assess and treat a wide range of skin problems including, suspicious lesions, eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, skin infections, rashes and many other common dermatological conditions.
Waiting times in Edinburgh for consultant dermatologist Clinics can be several months, we offer rapid appointments often on the same day, at a significantly lower cost than consultant-led services. For most patients, an experienced GP with a specialist interest in dermatology can provide the same initial assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan, with specialist referral only being required for a minority of more complex conditions.
We also provide comprehensive skin lesion assessment using dermoscopy (a specialized handheld diagnostic tool that combines bright, non-glare illumination and a magnifying lens to examine skin lesions to identify early signs of skin cancer and other conditions). If a lesion requires removal, we can perform surgical excision and arrange biopsy where appropriate.
Importantly, if your skin condition does require consultant assessment or specialist treatment, we can expertly identify this and ensure you are referred promptly. We are not limited to referring within Edinburgh and can direct you to the most appropriate private dermatologist or specialist service based on your condition, availability and expertise—whether that is in Edinburgh, elsewhere in Scotland or in London. This ensures you receive the right care as quickly as possible, without being restricted to local waiting lists.
