Dr David Richardson

BSc(hon), Dip Physiology, BHB, MBChB, MRCP (2005), MRCGP, Dip Paediatrics, DPD (Dermatology), Dip Occ Health

I was born in Lancashire and attended Secondary school at a state comprehensive in Plymouth. After completing a degree in Zoology at Swansea University I travelled overseas and settled in New Zealand where I did my medical training as a mature student at Auckland Medical School, graduating in 1998. I completed my first hospital jobs in Rotorua before spending another year working in Paediatrics and A&E in Australia.

I moved back to the UK in 2000 and have been living in working in Edinburgh since 2002. Gaining a broad experience in various hospital specialties and completing my medical consultant exams, I realised my passion was for the holistic care and relationship building that are core to General Practice. I completed my GP training in Edinburgh through the RCGP in 2007 and was a full time GP partner for 6 years at the West End Medical Practice in Edinburgh. Over the last few years, I have been developing a portfolio practice covering NHS and private health roles. My special interests are in patient centred General Practice, Health promotion, Health screening, Dermatology, Minor surgery and Occupational Health.

Over the years, I have found that my broad life experience, wide range of personal interests and diverse portfolio of clinical roles have enabled me to make a real connection with many of my patients.

Currently my other roles are as a salaried GP with the NHS Lothian Unscheduled GP Service and as a GP appraiser for NHS Lothian.

I live and work in central Edinburgh with my wife and 2 young children. I have enjoyed a very active life to date although it is less active now as I attempt to be a good Dad. My passions are for cycling, sailing and anything physical and outdoors. I have had many adventures in life and have lived many others vicariously through my wonderful patients and friends.

I love being a GP and I cannot wait to meet you here at Edinburgh GP.
