Sports & Exercise Medicine is a branch of the medical profession which specialises in both helping you focus on your fitness safely, and the care of injuries and illnesses related to physical activity and sport, focussing on musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment.
Musculoskeletal Medicine
Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions are those which affect the bones, muscles, tendons and joints. Here at Edinburgh GP, we are very fortunate to have two highly respected Sports & Exercise Medicine Doctors, fully equipped to manage and treat MSK conditions in Clinic through advice and treatment which includes but is not limited to joint and soft tissue injections and other non-surgical techniques to treat patients, without the need for surgery.
Both our Sports and Performance Doctors have extensive experience in working with professional sports teams and elite athletes.
Please note the cost of injections if appropriate and agreed with you will be in addition to the cost of your appointment. One injection for one area is priced at £50.

Both of our Sports and Performance Doctors have extensive experience in working with professional sports teams and elite athletes, supporting their teams fitness and health, as well as helping to manage injury effectively.
If you are returning to exercise or keen to focus on improving your fitness as part of your overall health planning, or perhaps are focused on improving and monitoring your performance, Exercise Tolerance Test (ETT) and VO2 max testing are very good metrics to ensure safety and to track your progress.
VO2 max testing measures the amount of oxygen your body and use during intense, exhaustive exercise and supports in the assessment of aerobic fitness, can help you to optimise your training plans and provides a good marker to evaluate your health and longevity by providing vital information on heart and lunch health.
ETT testing (also known as cardiac stress testing) monitors how your heart handles physical exertion. We primarily use it to uncover potential heart health issues and to find the cause of unexplained symptoms like chest pain or breathlessness and evaluate overall cardiovascular fitness. If you are re-focusing on fitness, are concerned about engaging in more aerobic activity, ETT can provide the information needed to ensure you can do this safely.
It is essential that we understand your medical history and status prior to carrying out this testing, so if you are a new patient, we have built time in to our appointment for a short consultation prior to conducting testing.
