In this article, Doctor Richardson takes a very timely look at the issue of patient confidentiality and private doctors, he underscores the ethos and values which underpin what the clinic stands for and why patient confidentiality is never in question.
As a private GP clinic, we provide a full range of primary care consultations, medicals and health screenings which are geared towards the Individual or Business.
But it is very important to stress that we treat all of our patients exactly the same, regardless of whether your consultation has been paid for by your employer or by you.
To be clear, some of our Business related services are geared towards very specific workplace needs of the employee. These come under the occupational health umbrella and might be pre-employment health screens, back to work medicals or certification for certain specialist industry medical requirements like OEUK or RUK. In these instances, we would provide your employer with only the specific information that they need (ie the minimum) and any information shared is only done so with your specific consent to do so. Your employer has no right to any of your medical information.
Whether your consultation or medical is employer or personally funded, it is important to know that YOU are the patient and the information in our records is YOURS, your consultation and records are completely confidential. We would NEVER share this confidential information or your results with your employer or anyone else for that matter.
The other thing we need to consider is your personal safety during your consultation. Any physical examinations or tests will only be done with your consent. There are no COMPULSORY examinations or tests during health screens or consultations. You will always be able to have a chaperone if you want one and we welcome patients bringing along support persons when needed.
This is a good time to remind you of some of the values which underpin what we stand for here at Edinburgh GP.
