Dr Nisha Narayanan
BA(Hons), MD, FAAP, FAAEM, ABP (Pediatrics), ABP(Pediatric Emergency Medicine)
Nisha is double board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Prior to moving to Edinburgh, she was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Clinical Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City where she remains on faculty to teach and continue her research.
After receiving her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, she obtained her medical degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine with a concentration in Health Policy. She completed her three-year pediatrics residency at the University of California, Irvine – Children’s Hospital of Orange Count,y and subsequently completed a three-year fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at New York University School of Medicine. She then worked as an attending physician in the pediatric emergency department at Weill Cornell Medicine, leading a team of pediatric doctors, nurses, and other health professionals while on shift to treat injured and critically ill children at this tertiary care academic institution, trauma centre and burn centre.
Dr. Narayanan is the co-founder of Team Kid Power, an international non-profit that promotes pediatric cardiometabolic health in underserved communities.
Her interests include community engagement, patient experience, health policy, child abuse, and quality improvement. She believes that every child deserves personalised, high-quality, evidence-based medical care and that preventative care is paramount. No family should feel alone or unsupported when they have a new baby, when they are confronted with parenting dilemmas, when their child experiences a medical problem, or when something just doesn’t feel right. She strives to treat every child like her own and wants to be the best advocate that she can be for her patients and their families.
Dr. Narayanan lives in Edinburgh with her husband and young daughter. In her free time, she enjoys running, biking and trekking.
