If you are planning to live, work or study abroad, you may need to apply for a visa. But for certain countries, a visa application might also require a medical assessment as part of the application process.

Certain countries require a Visa Medical for UK citizens, particularly for longer stays or specific purposes, longer stays are likely to trigger medical requirements.

The need for a medical examination often depends on the type of visa application and country, for example work, study or residency permits. These health checks are to ensure that applicants are in good health and pose no risk to public health in the country that the visa is being applied for.

Visa Medicals are commonly required for:

Middle Eastern countries: UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and others.
USA and Canada: For employment, student, or permanent residency.
Australia and New Zealand: Frequently required for work and residency applications.

Each country has its own set of guidelines, and it is important to check the specific medical requirements for your visa application.  Here at Edinburgh GP, our team are experienced in the medical requirements of different countries, and we can provide a comprehensive range of Visa Medical services.

While the specific requirements for a Visa Medical can vary significantly, most assessments and form completion can be accommodated within a 30 or 45 minute GP consultation. There may be additional fees for any tests required, such as blood tests or imaging. Once we have your enquiry, we will endeavour to send you a quote on the same day, if it is sent during standard working hours.

It would be helpful if you could provide a summary of your NHS GP records and any other relevant medical correspondence. Please forward your requirements along with any forms to us via [email protected].

Whether you are applying for residency, a work visa or a student visa, Edinburgh GP’s comprehensive, convenient and fast Visa Medical service will help to ensure that your visa application is as smooth as possible.  And although some Visa medicals can only be provided by approved practices (ie Australian and Canada) we can do most, so please do enquire directly with our team.
